SafeSelect is the market leader in psychological risk assessment. With more than 30 years of experience and leading practice in psychometric assessment, we provide clients with objective data to reduce the risk of employing problem performers. We work with industries including public safety, corrections, police, social work, ambulance, disability, aged care health services, manufacturing and more.

Our assessments are specifically designed for high-risk work environments, where ensuring the safety of individual staff, team members, clients and the community is always the highest priority. High risk work environments are those where there is the potential for heightened emotions, threats of violence or harm, or the responsibilities of working with vulnerable people.

SafeSelect’s assessments measure a range of traits for each job applicant, including:

  • Cognitive Ability
  • Personality and Behavioural Dimensions

Taken together, these data sets provide an overall psychological risk assessment for each individual applicant.

Workplace Violence Risk Assessment

Data from our assessments (see content covering The Risk Prediction Index) can be used to measure an individual’s level of risk for engaging in violent behaviour at work. This assessment technique is used when an employee has already acted violently in the workplace, and the organisation is seeking to determine the likelihood of future violent behaviour.

SafeSelect assesses the individual’s cognitive ability, personality, psychological vulnerabilities and behavioural tendencies to provide an indication of their level of psychological risk and potential for future violence.

These results are used in conjunction with a structured interview, and information provided from the referring manager, to provide the organisation with an indication of potential future risk.

Mental Health and Wellbeing Assessments

Most available tools used to assess an individual’s mental health and wellbeing are self- reports, meaning reliant upon the individual telling the truth and willingly revealing areas of vulnerability. When an individual's tenure is seen to be at risk, these assessments are unlikely to be accurate.

SafeSelect offers a psychometrically sound, reliable and valid suite of assessments to extract this information and highlight areas of mental health risk. Examining areas such as attitudes to discipline, socio-support systems, teamwork orientation, ambition and lifestyle, this appraisal delves deeply into various parts of a person’s life. Particularly useful in roles where a person may suffer from vicarious trauma, these tools can identify when a person is responding in a guarded way to the questions asked or attempting to gloss over areas of concern. These issues are subsequently explored in interview with the individual by a senior member of our assessment team.

It is to be noted that our Mental Health and Wellbeing Assessments are intended to identify areas of potential risk at very early stages of development to support an individual through issues before they become problematic.

Selection and Recruitment

Our assessments empower organisations to make more informed decisions about recruitment. Traditionally, employers learn about a candidate's previous performance through the application process: reading resumes, conducting interviews and completing reference checks. All of this information helps to paint a picture of the candidate's previous job performance.

SafeSelect’s approach is different: we measure a candidate's potential and our assessments provide your organisation with insights into how they are likely to perform in the future. We assess each candidate’s:

  • Cognitive Ability
  • Personality Characteristics
  • Psychological Vulnerabilities
  • Behaviours and Beliefs

This holistic approach to candidate assessment provides your organisation with an indication of the candidate’s suitability for the role, and an opportunity to identify potential psychological risks the candidate presents.

SafeSelect clients have found that assessing a candidate’s psychological risk with our specialised tools provides a number of benefits:

  • Reduced staff psychological injury and harm
  • Reduced employee turnover
  • Fewer workers’ compensation claims
  • Reduced sick leave in an employee’s first year of employment
