May

Moving into May it’s time to think about how we connect to each other. While many people consider relationships to be what we have with friends and families it’s important to consider the benefits and impacts we have with work colleagues, customers and the broader cultural collective within our community.

Reflecting on Relationships

Research has shown that the benefits of strong relationships extends beyond improving mental and emotional health. While decreased anxiety and depression, higher self-esteem, and greater empathy and trust are the well-known bonuses, strong, healthy relationships can also help you strengthen your immune system, speed up disease recovery and may even lengthen your life!

Managing relationship issues in the workplace can feel challenging. From interpersonal relationships within teams to the impact of personal and family relationships on individuals, knowing how to support members of your team, can be the key to creating a happy, productive and positive workplace.

Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) includes any behaviour, in an intimate or family relationship, which is violent, threatening, coercive or controlling, causing a person to live in fear and to be made to do things against their will. DFV can happen to anyone and can take many forms. It is often part of a pattern of controlling or coercive behaviour.

Communicating and connecting with others is vitally important to our physical and mental health. As social animals humans are wired to seek social support and understanding. But what is happening inside us that makes social connection so beneficial?

Loneliness is a growing concern globally, especially as it is shown to have a huge impact on people’s mental and physical health.
