Psychometric Assessments: Minimising the risk of a poor hiring decision

When your organisation is committed to ensuring the safety of individual staff, team members, clients and the community, you need to be confident that you are hiring the right person for the job.

We specialise in psychometric assessment for high-risk work environments, where employees are likely to be dealing with heightened emotions, vulnerable people, can face the threat of violence, and in some situations, may need to use force.

To do so, we offer tailored psychometric testing for candidate assessment, providing organisations with objective data and clear insights on individual job candidates and their potential for risk to themselves, their colleagues, clients and the organisation in such environments.

Our Psychometric Tests and Services

Applicant Suitability Matrix (ASM)

This assessment is specifically designed for environments where employees work with vulnerable people or have a responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of others. These are roles where you really have to be careful about selecting candidates who will be reliable and safe including industries such as aged care, disability care, healthcare, education, retail and contact centres.

The ASM assesses a candidate’s suitability across factors including:

  • Working with others
  • Working style
  • Emotional control

Combined with targeted interview questions, we bring together the assessment of a candidate’s potential and performance to enable you to feel more confident that you’re making the right recruitment decisions.

Conflict Coaching

Risk Prediction Index (RPI)

This is our flagship psychometric assessment test and was specifically designed for the most high-risk work environments in our community.

This psychometric assessment test is ideal for environments where there is potential for violence or danger to the employee, the public or others, and is used in the recruitment of public safety roles including police, fire, ambulance, and corrections amongst others. The RPI measures an individual’s level of psychological risk across:

  • Cognitive ability
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Working with others
  • Working style
  • Self-control
  • Psychological adjustment

This tool has unmatched reliability and validity data gained over decades of working with Australia’s largest policing and emergency services organisations as well as other high-risk employment environments. Providing insight into the level of risk a candidate will likely bring to the role, the results are supported by targeted interview questions to further assess the level of risk.

Mental Health and Wellbeing Assessments

Our psychometric testing can also be used as part of a mental health and wellbeing check for employees working in high-risk environments.  These psychometric tests are sound, reliable and valid tools to objectively measure and support employee mental health and wellbeing.

Evaluating areas such as working with others, work style, and emotional control, the psychometric assessment explores the employee’s personality and behaviour, and highlights areas of potential risk for our psychologists to further explore with the employee. This psychometric assessment test forms the basis of wellbeing recommendations and initiatives designed to support and improve the mental health of your employees.

Workplace Violence Risk Assessment

We take seriously a zero tolerance policy for workplace violence. When an employee is violent in the workplace (verbally, physically, psychologically), we use psychometric testing to assess the individual’s cognitive ability, personality, psychological vulnerabilities and behavioural tendencies to provide an indication of their level of psychological risk and potential for future violence.

These results are used together with a structured interview, and information provided by the referring manager, to indicate the potential future risk of the employee acting violently. Armed with this assessment, you’ll be able to make clearer decisions about what actions may be required and how to reduce long term risk for your organisation.

Workplace Personality Assessment

For roles that are not operating in a high risk environment, we use an Occupational Personality Assessment to examine the key areas related to on the job success including working with others, work style, emotions and motivation.  This psychometric assessment test is suitable for professional, graduate, and leadership roles where you are looking for further insight to a candidate’s potential fit to the role.

Psychological Assessment

Our team of psychologists specialise in the psychological assessment of risk for roles in high-risk environments, including the use of force, deployment and other specialised roles.  We partner with our clients to provide relevant psychometric assessment and facilitate in-depth clinical interviews to assess the psychological risk of candidates being recruited into such roles.
