Overview

What Is Nutrition Support in an EAP?

Nutrition Support is an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) service that connects employees with qualified dietitians and nutrition professionals to improve eating habits, energy, productivity, gut health, weight management and overall wellbeing. In reality, nutrition underscores both our mental and physical health. According to ABS 2022 statistics, only 44.1% of adults and children met the recommended fruit intake. That’s a 7% decrease compared to previous years. Vegetable consumption was far lower, at 6.5% in 2022.

With our bodies requiring nutrients to thrive, meagre intake of these food groups can impact our wellbeing. For example, we may feel less energised and productive and be more prone to seasonal illnesses such as the common cold. All these challenges can strike at different intervals of the year, resulting in more and more of your employees taking time away from work.

With Converge, our expert dietitians and nutritionists who deliver our nutrition workplace support programs, via EAP, can support your employees in finding the right nutritional diet for them. Through one-on-one consultations with qualified and experienced experts, we offer tailored, actionable nutrition plans, including guidance on diet intake, mindfulness, and more. Our employee nutrition programs empower your team to:

Tackle common challenges, such as improving nutritional intake or managing stress.

Focus on the key areas of their daily food requirements.

Feel more energised, mentally sharp, and ready to perform at their best.

01 — Delivering Nutrition Support

Why Employees May Need Nutrition Support

Nutrition support programs, and more specifically, employee nutrition programs, aim to help staff with their nutritional and lifestyle choices. There are many reasons why an employee might need to access nutrition support through their Employee Assistance Program. But ultimately, the goal of a nutrition support program is to help employees feel energised and healthy inside and outside of work.

Through one-on-one consultations with qualified nutritionists, dietitian and lifestyle experts, we offer tailored guidance on nutrition to ensure informed decisions and choices for employees. The service empowers your team to tackle common challenges, such as improving nutritional diet intake and managing stress related patterns of eating. By focusing on these key areas, your employees will feel more energised, mentally sharp, and ready to perform at their best.

Employees face many hurdles. And energy is one of them. As we know: our gut health impacts our mental health. Also known as the gut-brain axis, the gut microbiome produces neurotransmitters that can affect our mood and induce anxiety. That’s why nutrition support is essential. Harvard Health states:

“This connection goes both ways. A troubled intestine can send signals to the brain, just as a troubled brain can send signals to the gut. Therefore, a person's stomach or intestinal distress can be the cause or the product of anxiety, stress, or depression. That's because the brain and the gastrointestinal (GI) system are intimately connected.”

When employees face nutritional challenges, they may experience low energy, reduced productivity, and more. By partnering with Converge, we can help your employees tackle their challenges through the expert guidance of our clinicians via our nutrition support programs.
