Overview

What is Manager Support in an EAP

Manager Support is an EAP service that gives people leaders confidential coaching and guidance to manage workplace challenges, employee wellbeing concerns, performance issues and difficult conversations. It also helps leaders develop the skills, confidence and self-awareness needed to navigate the human complexities of leadership, strengthen team dynamics and improve workplace performance. Managers are often the go-to source for wellbeing support from their team members as a first port of call. However, leaders need to be equally supported with work and life issues. As such, offering them integrated support that equips them to manage any issue, challenge or opportunity supports sustainability, wellbeing and performance for your leaders.

When leaders face team challenges, EAP support is here for them. Through their employee assistance program, leaders know that they’re backed by experts, so when an employee comes to them with a personal or professional challenge, they’re able to guide the staff member to appropriate support. According to CMHAA, 60% of people seek support from their managers. That is why tailored expert support is essential to ensure they’re able to support their staff adequately and confidently, knowing that an expert is just a booking away.

Here are the various ways we can support your leaders:

Leadership Development vs Manager Support

While both services support leaders, they do so in different ways. Leadership Development focuses on building long-term leadership capability through structured learning and skill development, while Manager Support provides confidential, expert guidance when leaders need help navigating specific workplace challenges. Together, they help leaders develop the skills to succeed and the support to apply them in practice.

In simple terms: Leadership Development helps build capable leaders, while Manager Support helps leaders successfully navigate the challenges they face throughout their leadership journey.

The EAP support we provide to your leaders

Addressing mental health concerns

When you’re concerned about a team member’s mental wellbeing, our expert guidance helps you approach the situation with care and confidence, ensuring both support and accountability. Sometimes support to employees requires both empathy and boundaries, and sometimes, this combination can be hard to get right, but with Converge’s support, we’ll equip your leaders with the tools to manage employee issues sensitively and effectively. After all, supporting your team reduces absenteeism and presenteeism and can increase productivity and overall job satisfaction. With our touch, we can help your managers master the art of listening, acting, and supporting your staff with a range of wellbeing issues.

Performance management

Managing performance, especially when mental health issues are known or suspected, can feel overwhelming. We provide strategies to help you navigate these conversations thoughtfully and effectively. This is one aspect of leadership where support can be vital.

We work with your managers to ensure they’re able to approach a performance management conversation that achieves a positive outcome for both staff and leader. We’ll delve into the nuances of the conversation and provide steps to help your leaders navigate performance discussions.

All in all, a conversation regarding performance management needs to be delivered in a way that doesn’t lose the messaging of the conversation but safeguards the wellbeing of your leaders and their team. And that’s where we excel!

Difficult conversations

Whether you’re preparing for or reflecting on a challenging conversation, our coaching sessions offer advice on how to approach it with confidence and sensitivity, ensuring that you stay focused and constructive.

We work with your leaders to ensure they’re prepared to handle any conversation via our EAP for managers program. Make sure your managers are prepared for anything that comes their way with expert support from Converge.
