Awareness days in May
Time to raise awareness
Let’s take a moment to highlight the importance of awareness days
International Day of Families
The International Day of Families is held on May 15 to celebrate the importance of families and the work started during the International Year of Families. It is an international observance declared by the United Nations General Assembly with the aim of celebrating the role of families in society.
Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
Maternal Mental Health Day
The first Wednesday of May is World Maternal Mental Health Day. Organizations from around the world are leading efforts to raise awareness about maternal mental health through a collective social media push and in-country events. #maternalMHmatters #StrongerTogether
Family Pride Day
International Family Equality Day, or celebrating Family Pride, is a day celebrated annually in May to promote and celebrate the diversity of families around the world.
While this day is an exciting celebration for our families, it’s also a timely reminder of the importance of acceptance, inclusion, and support for all families.
International Day Against LGBTQIA+ Discrimination
The International Day stands against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia, also known as IDAHOBIT. The date commemorates when the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from the Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems on 17 May 1990.
